About
This is my personal website and blog I’ve set up to display my storm chasing images, videos, and chase accounts. I’m also blogging about various topics including weather, computers, programming, and a little politics.
I’ve been chasing storms every year since 1997, though my first actual chase was on May 8, 1986 when I got in my car and drove to Edmond, Oklahoma to try and see the tornado that was being reported. I missed that tornado, and didn’t see my first one until June 13, 1998 when I caught one of the early tornadoes in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
I’m a meteorologist working for Weather Decision Technologies next door to the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma as a software developer. Lately, I’ve been doing most of my development mapping weather data using various tools such as the Google maps APIs, both javascript and Flash, as well as Google Earth KML.
My computing skills currently include:
- Adobe Actionscript 2.0 and 3.0
- Adobe Flash
- Adobe Flex
- C++
- C#
- HTML
- JavaScript
- MySQL
- Perl
- PHP
- Visual Basic
- XML
I have also played around with a little Java, Ruby, and Python, though not enough to jump in and write something without access to a good reference or Google.
I have an advanced open-water diving certification, but scuba has taken a back seat to storm chasing since the late 90′s. I also enjoy snow-skiing and travelling in general.
